Project overview

Domain
Recruiting & professional networking — company-to-company matching with real-time chat and voice/video calls, built over a focused ~6.5-week team sprint.
Product
Interview 5 Minutes (internally 'SNS') is a company-matching app: company profiles, an invite/matching mechanic between companies, a social timeline/feed, in-app chat, and voice/video calling for quick introductory calls between matched companies.
Audience
Companies looking to connect and quickly introduce themselves to each other — profiles, matching, chat, and short voice/video calls support a fast, low-commitment way to make a first connection.
Why it exists
The product's own name points at its purpose: enabling a quick, low-friction way (a short call) for companies to introduce themselves and decide whether to pursue a fuller conversation, backed by profiles, matching, and chat.
Problem
As the project's initial developer and lead, the problem was standing up a brand-new app from nothing — architecture, navigation, and dependency setup — and then, throughout the build, delivering a real, working voice/video-calling feature the rest of the product depended on.

My role & contributions

I set up the project from scratch (the first commit in the repository's history) and, across the whole ~6.5-week build, owned the voice/video-calling feature end to end: integrating our team's existing internal VoIPEngine library (built on the OpenTok/Tokbox SDK) into the app, and building the call screens (outgoing, incoming, in-call) and the underlying call-session/signaling logic. I also led the project, split work across the team, reviewed code, and mentored two interns.

Challenges & solutions

  1. Technical challenges

Two real challenges stood out. First, integrating an existing internal VoIP library into a brand-new app and building reliable call-state handling (connecting, ringing, in-call, reconnect-on-drop) around it. Second, coordinating a team of around eight people — including two interns — building a new product from scratch in about six and a half weeks, which meant splitting work along clear feature boundaries and reviewing incoming code.

    How I approached it

For calling, the existing VoIPEngine library was wrapped behind the app's own call-session logic so the call screens only dealt with a small set of call states, with explicit handling for reconnect-on-drop. For the team, work was split by feature area (auth, calendar, task, conversation, calling) with per-person branches, so people — including the two interns — could work in parallel with clear review points.

Architecture & technologies

Interview 5 Minutes is a Kotlin Android app using classic View/XML UI, built on the same internal base template later also used for Biske (it shares that template's task-board and calendar-widget modules), with its own dedicated VoIPEngine module for voice/video calling wrapping the OpenTok/Tokbox SDK, and a hybrid backend reachable over REST and Socket.IO. The calendar feature in this codebase was built by a different team member, not by me.

This project demonstrates

This shows both technical delivery — integrating a real-time communication SDK and building a working call feature from scratch — and project leadership: bootstrapping a new product, splitting work across an eight-person team, reviewing code, and mentoring two interns, all within a focused six-and-a-half-week build.
